Virtual Power Plant

Here’s an audacious question.  Given the glut of underused commercial buildings in midtown Manhattan, is it feasible to convert one into a virtual power plant?  The surprising answer is yes.

Our design turned an empty high rise into a BESS (battery energy storage system) with the goals of harvesting green power, mitigating peak power usage, and relieving the utility grid.

Our adaptive reuse transformed the rooftop into an energy farm, with a green roof, wind turbines, and a solar panel array.

At the front facade, we removed the windows and recessed an insulated living plant wall behind it.  This green wall serves as a sign for the functions within.
